Thistle Navigational Rally
Saturday the 17th of July saw 5 cars compete in the Thistle navigational rally. The first rally event held by the club since February 2020. Starting from Ashgrove service station near Cairnie, the event headed towards Drummuir. Keith, Newmill, Deskford, Hill of Maud, Rathven, Drybridge, Clochan,Whitash,Mulben, over Rosarie back to Drummuir before finishing in the lay-by at Towiemore. The daylight made things more difficult but were generally quite quiet but many had been subject to gravel chipping and some had suffered recent flood damage. The event ran by marshals using a checksheet rather than filling in timecard and results followed by email.
Everyone did very well with close competition Colin Christie & Daniel Forsyth took victory with Michael Law & Diane Duffton second. John Albiston & Graham Watson survived early gearbox problems in the Ford Corsair and finished third. Dr John Harrington and son Stuart made their debut together and had an excellent run with only 2 penalties in the Non-expert class. Kyle Cartmell & Erin Wood also took part in their first event in an MGB GT they had an equally impressive run in the Novice class.
It was a little different but was nice to run a navigational event, it will be nice to return to a normal finish with results and refreshments! Thank You to course car Andrew & Lynsey Little. To all the marshals Bert Grant, Kai Grant, Doug Shanks, Raymond Duff. Huge thanks to Tommy Milton for closing car and clearing all the code boards.
